Unleashed to Cin7 Core: when and why to switch
Both products sit in the same category and similar price band. The reasons people move are usually about ecosystem fit, not pricing. Here is the honest assessment of where Cin7 Core wins, where Unleashed wins, and what migration looks like.
Short answer
Unleashed and Cin7 Core are close competitors with overlapping feature sets. The most common trigger for moving from Unleashed to Core is multi-channel ecommerce: Cin7 Core’s Shopify, Amazon, WooCommerce, and 3PL integrations are deeper than Unleashed’s. The reverse trigger (Core → Unleashed) is rarer but exists for businesses that want simpler manufacturing or stronger Xero-only accounting workflows.
Common reasons businesses move from Unleashed to Cin7 Core
Adding ecommerce channels
Unleashed handles ecommerce via integration partners. Cin7 Core has native Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, eBay, and Magento connectors maintained by Cin7 themselves.
Deeper Xero integration
Both Cin7 Core and Unleashed push to Xero, but Cin7 Core handles edge cases — multi-currency, project tracking categories, and tracking categories per line — that Unleashed forces you to work around.
B2B portal
Cin7 Core includes a B2B customer portal in Pro and above. Unleashed’s equivalent is more limited and often requires a third-party portal product.
Wider modern integration ecosystem
Make.com and Zapier work cleanly with Cin7 Core. Unleashed’s API is fine but its third-party connector ecosystem is smaller.
Where Unleashed still wins
Pure-play wholesale, no ecommerce
For B2B-only wholesalers running on Xero, Unleashed’s simpler interface and tighter Xero integration are arguably easier.
Simple manufacturing UI
Unleashed’s assembly and BOM UI is cleaner than Cin7’s for basic manufacturing. Cin7 wins on advanced manufacturing; Unleashed wins on simple.
Reporting out-of-the-box
Unleashed’s standard reports are stronger out of the box. Cin7 Core needs more configuration to get equivalent reports — though Cin7’s data exports better to BI tools.
Smaller team UX
For a 1–3 user team, Unleashed often feels lighter. Cin7 Core scales better but has more surface area to learn.
What carries across cleanly
- Product master (SKU, description, cost, prices)
- Customer and supplier master
- Opening stock by warehouse
- Open sales orders and purchase orders
- Pricing tiers and customer pricing rules (mapped, not lifted)
- Tax codes (re-mapped to Cin7 structure)
What needs rebuilding
- Document templates — Cin7 Core uses a different template engine
- Saved reports — rebuild in Cin7 or in your BI tool
- BOMs and assemblies — re-entered using Cin7 Core’s structure
- Custom workflows / automations — Cin7’s automation engine differs
- Channel integrations — set up fresh on the Cin7 connector
- User roles — Cin7’s permission model is different

- Aftercare. 30-day support window.
Unleashed → Core migration FAQ
Is Cin7 Core cheaper than Unleashed?
At the entry tier, broadly comparable. At the Pro/Advanced tier with comparable channels and users, Cin7 Core is often slightly cheaper for what you get because the B2B portal and ecommerce connectors are bundled rather than add-ons. Always price the apples-to-apples comparison for your specific channel and user counts.
How long do I lose access to live trading during cutover?
Typically a single weekend. We export final balances from Unleashed Friday EOD, load opening balances into Cin7 over Saturday, and you resume trading Monday morning on Cin7. For higher-risk environments we run a parallel week instead.
Can I keep my Unleashed historical data?
Yes — keep your Unleashed tenant read-only for 6–12 months for historical lookups, then export everything for archive. Cin7 Core starts fresh with opening balances and open orders.
What if I’m on Unleashed Software (TGI/Access Group)?
Unleashed was acquired by The Access Group. Product continues, but the roadmap and support model has shifted under new ownership. Some clients are moving to Cin7 Core specifically because of uncertainty about Unleashed’s product direction. We assess this case-by-case.
Will my Xero integration get worse if I move?
No. Cin7 Core’s Xero integration is solid — different to Unleashed’s but functionally equivalent. Some Unleashed-specific workflows (eg specific COGS posting behaviour) need to be re-tested during UAT, but the day-to-day sync of invoices and bills works cleanly.
What about my custom Unleashed reports?
They don’t carry across. We list them during discovery, then either rebuild in Cin7 Core, replace with a BI tool (eg Power BI, Looker Studio) hitting the Cin7 API, or determine they are no longer needed. Often the rebuild reveals reports nobody actually used anymore.
